The 6 common methods for Aluminum Finishing

Aluminum and aluminum alloy, with the advantages of low density, corrosion resistance, good plasticity, easy processing and molding, non-toxic, easy recycling, electrical conductivity, etc., is widely used in furniture hardware and other fields.

In the process, there are many finishing methods for aluminum alloy, including Abrasive Blasting, passivation, coloring, chemical polishing, chemical oxidation, spraying, electrochemical oxidation, and, so on.

I. Abrasive Blasting
Aluminum and aluminum alloy sandblasting is mainly for cleaning the surface, generally used for pre-spraying treatment, which can increase surface roughness and improve adhesion.

2. Alodine coatings
Alodine coatings can be used to enhance the passivation oxide layer on the surface of aluminum products to improve corrosion resistance.

3. Coloring
There are 2 ways to color aluminum, one is through anodizing and the other is electrophoresis. Aluminum anodized coloring can be made into a variety of colors, such as black, gold, etc. commonly used in pulls in cabinets.

4. Chemical polishing
Chemical polishing uses the selective dissolution of aluminum in the solution of a chemical polishing agent to flatten aluminum and aluminum alloys to reduce the surface roughness.

5. Powder  Coating
To improve the adhesion between the coating and the part, phosphating, passivation, and chemical oxidation are generally carried out before powder coating.

6. Electrochemical oxidation
Electrochemical oxidation requires simple equipment, and high production efficiency, and is not limited by the size and shape of the parts. It has stronger corrosion resistance and better adsorption than chemical oxidation.
